May 24 Endless Road, Endless IdahoGus Van Sant is a master who can express the endless pain and struggle of youths, and their hopeless love excellently by his lens. That's my first and the strongest feeling after I watched My Own Private Idaho for the second time.
![]() You must put your deep sympathy to Mike (River Pheonix), he's so poor both in money and heart. He's eager for love but nobody wanna give that to him. He is refused again and again, his mother, and at last, his beloved Scott (Keanu Reeves). Although Scott is cruel and hardhearted, I could hate him as well. He also has his own pains, like Mike hiding away from the reality by narcoleptic, he also is hiding away from reality by throwing his past far-behind...
I love River Pheonix as James Dean, and they are always compared by their fans. You cannot find out any section which you have reason to impugnment his acting (he was recommended to Gus by Keanu). He was got into this role so deeply that he could never pull himself out. Just like James Dean, he also ended his life very young (because of OD). His death saves his best friends: Keanu and Johnny Depp never touched drugs again... At least, River escaped this endless, ugly real world forever...
